SOCIAL-WORK’S SPRING/SUMMER 19 COLLECTION IS INSPIRED BY 60S YOUTH-ORIENTED COUNTER CULTURE IN THE WESTERN WORLD AND THE CONCURRENT GREAT CULTURAL REVOLUTION IN CHINA. THE DESIGNERS ARE FASCINATED BY THE DISTINCT  CONTRAST WITHIN THE SOCIOPOLITICAL CHANGES PRESENTED BY BOTH SIDES OF THE WORLD. 

NEW CULTURES, LIFESTYLES, AND ANTI-AUTHORITARIAN MOVEMENTS WERE BOOMING. IN THE WESTERN SOCIETY, BUT THE INFLUENCE OF GOVERNMENT WAS UNDERMINED. WHILE IN CHINA, THE ENTIRE COUNTRY WAS MINIMIZE INDIVIDUALITY BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR PURSUING THE COMMUNIST IDEOLOGY. 

1984 BY GEORGE ORWELL, PROVIDES AN ANALOGY TO OUR SS19 CONCEPT. THE MAIN CHARACTER WAS CENSORED AND CONTROLLED OVER BY INTENSE NATIONAL-WIDE PERSONALITY CULT AND WAS PERSECUTED FOR HIS INDIVIDUALISM. IT IS A WARNING FOR US ALL, SIMILAR DYSTOPIAN SITUATIONS EXIST IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD AND IT WILL CATCH EVERY CHANCE TO REPEAT ITSELF IF FOR A SECOND, WE STOP FIGHTING FOR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND FREEDOM.
